"Aphorismes": Drawings with Augmented Reality

What is augmented reality?

As the name suggests, it's simply reality to which something is added. It's a digital technique that allows overlaying reality with digital animations updated in real time. And by what means is it possible to alter reality?

Through technology!

Using a smartphone or tablet, it's possible to discover this reality designed by the artist to complement the drawings and create a unique work of art where the essential is no longer visible with the eyes alone.

This process creates a surprising dialogue between the techniques of drawing and digital art, where each communicates to become one and can finally develop a new semantics, offering a unique work of art.

Why "Aphorismes"? Contemporary art?

In a time where thought seems forgotten, where reflection is conditioned by the media, it seemed important for the artist to restore philosophy's place.

Isn't augmented reality the perfect allegory of Plato's cave myth? These images projected onto the real world blur the boundaries between appearance and reality. What becomes of reality? And since this reality is augmented, how is it defined?

Are we like in Matrix? Would we have chosen the red pill to see reality as it truly is?

This is how "Aphorismes" pushes the boundaries of art by combining drawings and augmented reality. Each work is an invitation to reflection, a starting point into a parallel universe.

It's contemporary art using today's digital techniques—a kind of interactive digital art.

"Micro-Aphorismes": The Complementary Micro Series

As the name might suggest, the micro-aphorismes series consists of small-format drawings, also complementing augmented reality.

These are small pieces of immersive art. Each drawing becomes a visual and auditory aphorism.

Whether in an engaged way or more dreamlike, this series acts as an extension to the Aphorismes series.

The hybrid artist: Christelle Vinsonneau

Christelle Vinsonneau is a multidisciplinary French artist who merges fine arts, digital technologies, and video. Her artistic journey has been marked by her curiosity and constant desire to explore new creative territories. Her diverse work reflects a continuous search for new forms of expression that push boundaries by combining traditional and digital techniques.

After solid training in fine arts, Christelle Vinsonneau quickly turned towards the creation of immersive and interactive works. Her installations, such as Vertige(s), demonstrate her ability to blend the real and the virtual, inviting the audience to a surprising sensory experience.

A digital artist, but not limited to this, her thirst for experimentation has also led her to the performing arts. As a director and author, she has signed many original creations, including Maria aux pétunias, a true tour de force that blurs the lines between theater, cinema, and digital performance.

Mastering new technologies lies at the core of her artistic approach, considering them as additional tools rather than an end goal. She uses sound, video, augmented reality, and other digital tools such as mapping, interactive real-time video generation, and acousmatic creation to craft works that question our relationship with the world and images. Whether through her artistic installations, performances, or collaborations with composers and many other artists (choreographers, dancers, circus performers, musicians…), Christelle Vinsonneau explores the infinite possibilities offered by digital technology to develop her artistic expression. Beyond its aesthetic dimension, Christelle Vinsonneau's work also carries a social and humanist message. Her collaborations with medical and social structures showcase her desire to use art as a vehicle for transformation and inclusion, such as during the creation of the art book Les chromatismes du bien.

Recently, for the Aphorismes series, Christelle Vinsonneau combines drawing and augmented reality to invite the viewer to a unique interactive experience, where the work reveals itself as the different layers of reality are explored. Each drawing becomes an open window into a parallel universe, provoking reflection and emotion.
